MODE BUTTON

Selects how the footswitch controls the effect. LATCH (Green LED) Play a note or chord and then press and release the footswitch to activate the effect and light the LED green. After you release the footswitch, the effect remains active and your sound sustains indefinitely. Double-tap the footswitch to end the frozen sound and enter bypass. MOMENT MODE (Orange) Play a note or chord and then press and hold the footswitch to activate the effect and light the LED. The freeze effect sustains indefinitely while you hold down the footswitch. Release the footswitch and the Deep Freeze enters bypass. AUTO MODE (Red) The Deep Freeze detects each new note or chord you play and freezes it automatically. Press the footswitch to engage the effect and light the LED red. Double-tap the footswitch to return to bypass.

DRY KNOB

Controls the output level of the dry signal.

EFFECT KNOB

Controls the output level of the effect.

SPEED/LAYER KNOB

In LATCH mode, this knob controls how much of the previously frozen sound is layered onto your new freeze. In MOMENT mode, this knob controls how quickly the frozen signal fades in and out. In AUTO mode, by default, this knob controls the fade-out time of the frozen sounds after you play a new note/chord. This can be changed to affect the attack instead of the decay of the signal, see the Auto Decay & Attack Modes section for more.

GLISS KNOB

This knob adjusts the speed of the gliss effect. Gliss morphs one frozen note or chord into the next; it is similar to the portamento function found on many synthesizers. As you turn the GLISS knob clockwise, the gliss time increases. To turn gliss off completely, turn the GLISS knob down all the way to its full counterclockwise position. PERFORMANCE NOTE: The easiest way to hear the gliss effect is to put the Deep Freeze into AUTO mode, completely turn down the DRY knob and set the GLISS and SPEED/LAYER knobs to 50% or higher.

INPUT JACK

Audio input to the Deep Freeze.

OUTPUT JACK

Audio output from the Deep Freeze.

FOOTSWITCH & STATUS LED

Footswitch engages or bypasses the effect. The LED color indicates the selected mode. In bypass, the LED is off.

POLY BUTTON

Press this button to choose your volume envelope mode: Green – Mono Mode The entire signal goes through one volume envelope. Any time you play a new note or chord, the volume envelope resets, affecting every note you are playing or sustaining. Orange – Poly Mode Each note has its own volume envelope and therefore multiple volume envelopes are active at one time.

VOL KNOB

Controls the output volume.

SENS KNOB

Controls the sensitivity of the Pico Attack Decay to new notes. As SENS is turned clockwise, the more easily your playing will trigger and reset the volume envelope.

ATTACK KNOB

As you turn ATTACK knob clockwise, the attack time increases. Turn the ATTACK knob to minimum to disable the attack portion of the envelope.

DECAY KNOB

Sets the fade-out speed of the volume envelopes. As you turn DECAY knob clockwise, the decay time increases. Turn the DECAY knob to maximum to disable the decay portion of the envelope.

INPUT JACK

Audio input to the Pico Attack Decay.

OUTPUT JACK

Audio output from the Pico Attack Decay.

FOOTSWITCH & STATUS LED

Footswitch engages or bypasses the effect. The LED color indicates the envelope type. In bypass, the LED is off.

9V POWER JACK

Attach the output plug from the included power supply to the 9V power jack. The STRING9 draws 100mA at 9VDC on a center-negative plug. Do not exceed 10.5VDC on the power jack.

DRY VOL KNOB

Controls the volume of the untreated instrument signal present at the SYNTH OUTPUT jack.

EFFECT VOL KNOB

The EFFECT VOL knob controls the overall volume of the selected patch at the EFFECT OUTPUT jack.

PATCH KNOB

Turn the knob to select a strings patch.

INPUT JACK

EFFECT OUTPUT JACK

In effect mode, the EFFECT OUTPUT jack outputs the mix set by the DRY and EFFECT volume knobs. In BYPASS mode, EFFECT outputs either the buffered bypass signal or is muted, depending on the setting of the internal BYPASS MUTE DIP switch. The source impedance at the EFFECT OUTPUT jack is 500Ω.

DRY OUTPUT JACK

The DRY OUTPUT jack outputs the signal present at the INPUT jack through a buffer circuit. In either EFFECT or BYPASS mode, the dry signal is always present at the DRY OUTPUT jack. The source impedance at the DRY OUTPUT jack is 500Ω.

BYPASS FOOTSWITCH & LED

Press the Bypass footswitch to toggle the EFFECT OUTPUT jack between buffered bypass/mute and EFFECT mode. The status LED lights when you are in EFFECT mode. Change between buffered bypass or mute—while in Bypass mode—by flipping the internal BYPASS MUTE DIP switch. The STATUS LED blinks when waiting for a Freeze trigger or upon receiving a new Freeze trigger.

DRY VOL KNOB

The DRY VOL knob controls the volume of the untreated instrument signal present at the EFFECT OUTPUT jack.

EFFECT VOL KNOB

The EFFECT VOL knob controls the overall volume of the selected patch at the EFFECT OUTPUT jack.

Selects the effect type.

PRESET FOOTSWITCH

Toggles between Preset and live What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) modes. The PRESET footswitch is also used to save a preset to the current synth type set by the TYPE knob.

Toggles the SYNTH OUTPUT jack between buffered bypass and effect modes. The status LED lights when you are in effect mode.

EXP JACK

The EXP jack accepts a TRS cable from a standard passive expression pedal or control voltage (CV) on a TS cable.

SYNTH OUTPUT JACK

Produces the mix set by the DRY and SYNTH volume controls.

DRY OUTPUT JACK

The DRY OUTPUT jack produces the signal present at the INPUT jack.

VOL KNOB

Sets the master output level of the Attack Decay.

BLEND KNOB

A master wet/dry mix. Optionally, it can adjust the mix between dry and Harmonix signals before they enter the volume envelopes. A third option mixes the signal at the RETURN jack with the output of the volume envelopes.

ATTACK KNOB

Sets the swell or fade-in speed of the volume envelopes.

DECAY KNOB

Sets the staccato or fade-out speed of the volume envelopes.

POLY BUTTON

Press and release to toggle between mono and poly modes.

SENS MINI KNOB

– MONO (POLY OFF): Sets the threshold at which a new pluck is detected thus triggering the start or restart of the volume envelope. – POLY ON: When POLY is enabled the SENS knob has a similar function as in Mono mode but over a limited range.

PRESET BUTTONS 1, 2, & 3

Press and release to load and unload the first, second, or third preset. Press and hold for two seconds to save the sound you currently hear to a preset.

HARMONIX MINI KNOB

Adjusts the gain and saturation amount of the internal Harmonix distortion.

TONE MINI KNOB

Sets the tone of the Harmonix section.

H.VOL MINI KNOB

Sets the output volume of the Harmonix section.

BYPASS FOOTSWITCH

Press and release the BYPASS footswitch to toggle between effect and buffered bypass.

HARMONIX/PRESET FOOTSWITCH

Engages and disengages the Harmonix fuzz. Alternately, this footswitch can be used to cycle through presets and What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG), live mode.

INPUT JACK

This is the audio input.

OUTPUT JACK

This is the audio output.

SEND JACK

Use this jack as the signal source for the Attack Decay’s external FX loop.

RETURN JACK

Receives the output from an external effects loop or another instrument.

EXP JACK

Connect an expression pedal or control voltage (CV) to allow for external control over every knob on the Attack Decay. Connect a clock pulse to EXP to trigger the volume envelopes from an external source.

DRY VOL KNOB

Controls the volume of the untreated bass signal present at the SYNTH OUTPUT jack.

SYNTH VOL KNOB

Controls the overall volume of the synthesizer sound at the SYNTH OUTPUT jack.

SENS KNOB

Adjusts the gain of the input signal before the signal hits the trigger block.

CTRL KNOB

Controls a specific parameter for each synth type.

TYPE KNOB

Selects the effect type.

DRY OUTPUT JACK

In either EFFECT or BYPASS mode, the dry signal is always present at the DRY OUTPUT jack.

DRY KNOB

Controls the volume level of the dry signal.

EFFECT KNOB

Controls the volume of the effected signal.

ATTACK KNOB

Controls the fade-in speed of the frozen signal.

DECAY KNOB

Controls the fade-out speed of the frozen signal.

THRESHOLD KNOB

Controls how sensitive the Superego+ is to the input signal.

LAYER KNOB

In SUSTAIN, AUTO, and LATCH modes, use the LAYER knob to set the level of the previously frozen signal when it is mixed with a newly frozen signal.

GLISS KNOB

Controls the speed of the glissando effect.

RATE KNOB

Controls the rate/speed of the selected effect.

DEPTH KNOB

Controls the depth/amount of the selected effect.

EFFECTS SELECTOR KNOB

Selects which of the 11 effects will be applied to the frozen or effected signal when the EFFECT footswitch is engaged.

MODE FOOTSWITCH

Cycles through the five modes indicated by the mode LEDs.

EFFECT FOOTSWITCH

Turns the internal effect section of the Superego+ on and off.

BYPASS FOOTSWITCH

Enables or disables the Superego+ pedal. Depending on what mode the Superego+ is in, this footswitch can function as a freeze trigger, or an auto trigger enable/disable.

INPUT JACK

Plug the output of another effects pedal or an instrument such as guitar, bass, or keyboard into this ¼” input jack.

SEND JACK

If you would like the freeze signal to go through an external effects chain while keeping your dry signal out of this chain, use the Superego+ built-in effects loop.

EXP (EXPRESSION) JACK

Connect a standard TRS expression pedal or control voltage (CV) between 0 to 5V to the EXP input to allow external control over the ATTACK, DECAY, RATE, DEPTH, THRESHOLD, LAYER and GLISS parameters.

OUTPUT JACK

Use this jack for the main output.

RETURN JACK

If using the external effects loop, plug the output of the external effect(s) into the RETURN jack.

EXT (EXTERNAL CONTROL) JACK

Use a TRS three-button external/auxiliary switch to remotely control the footswitches.

DRY VOL KNOB

Controls the volume of the untreated instrument signal present at the SYNTH OUTPUT jack.

SYNTH VOL KNOB

For all presets except MINI MOOD, the SYNTH VOL knob controls the overall volume of the selected preset at the SYNTH OUTPUT jack. In MINI MOOD, SYNTH VOL controls the volume of the non-portamento synthesizer.
